The American Heart Association put out a bold recommendation for less than 6 teaspoons of added sugar per day for children ages 2-18.  High levels of added sugar may increase their risks for cardiovascular disease, hypertension, obesity, and insulin resistance leading to type 2 diabetes.It can be difficult to know how much added sugar is in your food. In 2018, food manufacturers will be required to label the amount of added sugar in their products.
